Makeup is NOT Cruelty Free

I recently bought Bath and Body Works products and then rethought that purchase. In fact, I returned them. I still have some I bought a few months previous to that and I’ll keep those, but after that, it’s a new world at my casa. An example of this is that I had purchased Cerave prior to learning it was not cruelty free – even though it claims to be – as do many products.

An example of the deception and the hypocrisy that is used by makeup companies is the exact one used by Bath and Body Works. The corporation itself does not test on animals, but does state that some of their distributors in other countries might have to test on animals because of their laws. This can loosely be translated to “we sell in China because China still requires animal testing, but we’ll just pretend we’re not part of it because our distributor does it. Our hands are clean”.

So, if you buy a product that it sold in China, such as Mary Kay or NARS or even Maybelline, you are participating in animal testing because Chine REQUIRES IT! I make it a rule never to throw away a product once I discover that it is NOT CRUELTY FREE, but I won’t buy it again.

So many products claim to be cruelty free but when pressed, you discover they aren’t. When I sold Mary Kay I drank the pink koolaid and somehow justified the animal testing that is done on animals in China so that the products can be sold in China. They claim that this way they can negotiate with the powers that be and make a difference. I say this is a blatant lie because they are only concerned about profit.

I don’t care how big the market is in China, how much money they are making in China, the morality of the animal testing is simply more important than the almighty profit. It needs to stop.

Another issue with animal testing is that pets that are rehomed or stolen have ended up in laboratories. Not only do we have to worry about missing pets being used for bait dogs, or for other people’s pets, but we also have to worry about them being stolen for laboratory testing. The easiest way to solve this risk it to stop animal testing. If there is no testing there can be no theft for testing.

Namaste. Hug your pets and hope that they are never stolen for experiments.
